One of the world’s most iconic fashion houses, The House of Chanel has been doing well since 1910. Gabrielle Chanel born in 1883 was a revolutionary for the fashion industry, earning the nickname Coco, while she was a performer. Only starting out with selling women’s hats, began a whole new change in the country of France for fashion. In 1909 Gabrielle Chanel decided to open up a millinery shop in a ground floor Parisian flat, which became successful. Therefore she was able to support herself to open her very own millinery shop in 1910 at 21 rue Cambon. In 1913 Coco had begun to produce sportswear, with the idea for practicality to play sports for the everyday women.  By 1915 everyone in France had known about the House of Chanel because of the designs and clothes that were being produced.

By 1918, Gabrielle Chanel was doing well enough to purchase the entire building at 31 rue Cambon in Paris. It is here where she had created her modern boutique. In 1921 she had begun to display her very first perfume, Chanel No.5 to be given to clients as a gift with purchase of garments and hats. With the popularity of Chanel No.5, Coco had decided to release it for sale in the following year. With Chanel No.5 being as popular today, it is undoubtedly apart of Chanel’s great history, the top of the bottle being designed after the Place Vendôme in Paris.

Today the French fashion house has creative director Karl Lagerfeld leading the house into the future while still using some of the signature designs of Coco Chanel. Chanel produces fashionable pieces, desired by most fashionistas from all over the world. The Chanel Boy bag, Chanel Classic Flap bag, Chanel Mini, Chanel Jumbo flap, Wallet On A Chain, and Chanel Chevron are all examples of today’s most sought after bags.
